Halloween at Disneyland Resort starts in just a couple of weeks (officially on September 15) and we wanted to make sure everyone was fully informed about all the fun that will be happening this year, specifically the NEW decorations and overlays at California Adventure! At the end of July, we shared a blog post with all details about Halloween at Disneyland, so be sure to check that out here if you haven’t already!
In California Adventure, guests will get to experience brand new Halloween fun! First, as you walk up to the main gates, you’ll notice a new greeter – Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas will be high up above the main entrance turnstiles! Once guests enter the park onto Buena Vista Street, there will be more Nightmare Before Christmas-themed decorations to enjoy.
Characters in Costume
Also, be sure to catch Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy wearing brand new Halloween costumes on Buena Vista Street! Mickey will be a bat, Goofy will be a ghost, and Daisy will be a witch – can’t wait to see the rest of the costumes!

How amazing is this Headless Horseman statue in the middle of Buena Vista Street?! It’s 10 feet tall and looks awesome!
Haul-O-Ween in Cars Land

We are so excited for Haul-O-Ween in Cars Land for the first time ever! Disney never disappoints, so we are sure this will be an amazing an extremely detailed overlay. The residents of Radiator Springs will be in costume (Lightning McQueen, Red, Mater and Cruz), shops will have new names like “Fillmore’s Jack Oil-Lanterns,” “Flo’s Spider-Car,” and “Witchy Miss Lizzie’s Shop,” and lastly, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollicking Roadsters will transform into “Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree” and “Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween!” So far, based on the schedule for these attractions, we haven’t seen that they will close down before they dawn their new Haul-O-Ween looks, but we will update on Instagram if we hear.

Mickey’s Halloween Party
Guests of Mickey’s Halloween Party (read more about the party on our original Halloween post) get to enjoy California Adventure for THREE hours before the party officially starts at Disneyland – this is new this year! Once the party starts at Disneyland, guests have to head over that way, but it’s pretty nice they’re giving everyone with a Halloween Party ticket some time at California Adventure this year without having to purchase a park hopper ticket!
Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! will be transformed into “Monsters After Dark” every evening once the sun sets from September 15-October 31! The story for this spooky version of this fun ride goes that the Guardians of the Galaxy accidentally left their friend Groot behind during their escape, so they’re inviting guests to help #SaveGroot (use that hashtag if you ride!) from the Collector’s Fortress. The attraction will continue to feature fun music and a brand new song created by the composer of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies called, “Monsters After Dark.” Sounds so exciting!

Dia de Los Muertos and “Coco” Celebration
From September 15-November 2, 2017, guests will get to enjoy a Dia de Los Muertos celebration at California Adventure! The celebration will include special decorations, entertainment, activities for the littles and new food offerings inspired by the upcoming film, “Coco” (coming to theaters November 22, 2017).
Also, starting November 5 all the way through January 7, 2018, guests will get to experience a sneak peek of “Coco” at the “It’s Tough to be a Bug” Theater and part of the Dia de Los Muertos celebration will be moved to A Bug’s Land. We always love Festival of Holidays every Holiday season at California Adventure, so this will be a great addition!
