Happy Sunday! Who else is counting down the days until the Disneyland Railroad, the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davey Crockett Explorer Canoes return to working mode?! We are just so excited.

All of these attractions officially open this coming Saturday, July 29, but we bet there will be soft openings just like the parks usually do with returning shows and attractions. We can’t guarantee they’ll be doing soft openings, but if you’re heading to Disneyland a couple days before July 29, keep your eyes peeled and ears open to hear if word is spreading that these attractions are up and running for guests to enjoy!

We always recommend families to make time for at least one of these attractions during a visit to Disneyland – they’re great for young kids! We especially love taking breaks on the 18-minute long ride around the happiest place on earth on the Disneyland Railroad – such a nice way to relax your feet and take in the sights and sounds of the park. We’re really looking forward to seeing the new route along the Rivers of America and Big Thunder Trail. We also think that the Disneyland Railroad is the perfect #mkmnursingspot to nurse or feed your babes! Strollers must be parked to ride.

The Mark Twain and the Sailing Ship Columbia are also great attractions to rest your feet for a bit. The trip around the Rivers of America for both the Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia is 14-minutes, which is the perfect amount of time to kick back and take things slow for a bit (also another great #mkmnursingspot!). The Mark Twain is typically open from park opening until 5:45 PM daily, but be sure to check the daily schedule for times so you don’t miss the opportunity to ride! The Sailing Ship Columbia usually opens at around 11:00 AM and closes at about 4:00 PM – once again, be sure to check the daily schedule during your visit or ask a Cast Member at the loading dock for the ship and boat for times.

Last, but not least, the Davey Crockett Explorer Canoes! Need a little workout in between your miles of walking through the parks? HA! Or maybe after 15 churros like we usually inhale each visit? Well, head down to the Davey Crockett Explorer Canoes to take a trip around the Rivers of America with some other friends and a guide! Honestly, you don’t really have to work that hard –  it’s just a fun little activity to partake in! The canoes are typically open when the park opens and close by 5:00 PM.

Not only are all of these attractions super fun for families, but a couple of them also offer free souvenirs! We’ve shared pretty much all the freebies you can gather up around both parks, but just in case you haven’t heard about or seen our posts about the Disneyland Railroad and Mark Twain freebies, we’re sharing again!

Disneyland Railroad Freebies

You can ask a Cast Member at the Main Street Train Station for a free “Conductor of the Day” or Engineer of the Day” certificate – lots of fun for kids! We aren’t 100% sure if they’ll continue offering these certificates when the railroad officially opens back up, but no harm in asking if your little one wants one! You can also ask the Cast Member at the Main Street Train Station if you can sit in the tender car with the Engineer – this is not guaranteed on every train, but if you see the C.K. Holiday or E.P. Ripley out at the Main Street Train Station, feel free to ask!

Another fun freebie from the Disneyland Railroad is a Lilly Belle Presidential Car ticket! Once again, all you have to do is ask the Cast Member at the Main Street Train Station for a ticket and if they have them, you’ll likely score one! As of a couple years ago, guests are no longer able to ride inside the Lilly Belle (they will still let guests peek into the windows when it’s at the Main Street Train Station), but the ticket alone is a fun little souvenir!

Mark Twain Riverboat Freebie

One of the best hidden gems of the Mark Twain is the chance to steer the boat around the Rivers of America from the wheelhouse! If you head to the docked Mark Twain in Frontierland first thing in the morning (we always recommend morning), you can ask the Cast Member at the attraction’s entrance to sit in the wheel or pilothouse of the boat! The view from the top is breathtaking and once you’ve completed your trip around the Rivers of America, you’ll receive a free Pilot’s Certificate – we love this so much!
